Eight Hundred Grapes

By Laura Dave

4 out of 5 stars

When I got this book from Netgalley a while back, I was so excited to read it and review it because I have loved every Laura Dave book that I have read. I started reading it and then we had the big move so it’s taken me longer than usual but I finally got to snuggle in bed and finish it. I was not disappointed.

From the very first chapter, you fall in love with Georgia Ford, her spunk, her heart and her family. She escapes to her family’s Sonoma vineyard after finding out her soon-to-be husband has a child with a famous (and very beautiful ) actress. And this all starts as she is trying on her wedding dress! When she gets home, she finds another man coming out of her mother’s bedroom, her father knows about it and her brothers are fighting over a wife. A lot of things going on with this family. And what really throws her for a loop is when she finds out her parents are selling their vineyard to a bigger corporation. This brings her into the path of Jacob, the one who’s company is buying the vineyard. Do sparks fly? You will have to read to find out.

Laura Dave’s usual witty writing is very present here. The dialogue between each character is great. It made me want to be a part of their circle. (It also made me want to dig into that lasagna!)  There is no one to hate in any scenario. You just want each of them to find what it is they need. I loved the interaction between Georgia and Jacob. You could feel the connection right from the start. Another great read from Laura Dave. The perfect little summer book.
