Fool Me Once

By Harlan Coben

4 out of 5 stars

Maya Stern was a respected Army helicopter pilot before something bad happens (which you learn later in the story). She seems to be struggling with some kind of PTSD and now, she has to deal with the shooting death of her husband Joe. He’s killed in some kind of robbery attempt as they are walking in the park and even though Maya is an ace markswoman, she runs away from the scene. This isn’t her first time dealing with a murder in the family, her sister was also shot and killed. Things start getting strange when a friend gives her a nanny cam to watch over her child and she sees her husband!  And when she finds out her sister and husband were killed with the same gun, Maya starts unraveling secret upon secret. This all leads up to the very surprising ending.

This is Harlan Coben in his element. You question everything and everyone. I was not prepared for who killed who! He had some very clever twists and turns right up until the ending which is a very good thing. I love being shocked and being proven totally wrong. This is a standalone so if you haven’t read any of his series, this is a good start.

I received a copy of this ARC from Netgalley and Penguin in exchange for an honest review.
