A mother and son are walking home when she lets go of his hand and he runs home, only to be hit by a car and killed. The car speeds away. The mother runs away after the funeral, not wanting to face anything or anyone.
Our story then finds Jenna Gray moving to a small coastal town in Wales. She doesn’t expect to fall in love with the local vet Patrick or find a way to use her artistic talents. She ends up taking photos of words in the sand and they become quite popular. In the meantime, the police look for the runaway mother and look for the hit-and-run driver. It all moves along until the police come to Jenna’s door. And then WAIT! WHAT? There is a twist I did NOT see coming.
Suddenly, we are reading the story of Jenna (Jennifer) and her abusive husband. How cruel can someone be? Well, we find out in another twist that made me shout Oh My God and made my husband ask what was wrong. “Oh, it’s the book I’m reading.”
This is one of the best mystery/thrillers I have read in a long, long time. I did not want to stop reading. Honestly, my husband kept talking to me while I was reading and I don’t have a clue to what he was saying. (Sorry honey) There is so much I want to say but I don’t want to give anything away. I know that you will all feel the same way I did. This is her debut novel and I can only see great things in her future. Please pick this book up. You will not be disappointed.
I happily received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
