Anne and Marco Conti are at a dinner party next door. Their house adjoins their neighbors so there really isn’t that much privacy. They have also left their baby Cora, in her crib. They brought the baby monitor with them, a broken one but they can hear, and they have taken turns every half hour, going and checking on her. Anne did not want this arrangement at all and when their sitter canceled, she wanted to cancel too but Marco was insistent. When they finally return home and Anne checks on Cora, she is not in her crib. This begins a kidnapping story that goes all over the map! No one trusts anyone and everyone has a secret.
My problem with this book was all the secrets. I love a good twist and turn but this was like driving down Lombard Street in San Francisco! It started off really well and then slowly got a bit too mixed up and dragged a bit. When you find out who took the baby, there is yet another twist. As the cops try and find out if Cora is still alive, there is doubt on everyone in the story. I liked the ending, though I have many reviews that didn’t. It added a different kind of element to the story.
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
